McMillanElite Announces Expanded Athlete Benefits for 2008 and 2009

Flagstaff - May 12, 2008 - Starting its second year, McMillanElite announces expanded benefits for athletes for 2008 and 2009. adidas – the team’s primary sponsor, has increased its commitment and now provides free housing in addition to an equipment and race travel sponsorship. Additionally, McMillanElite athletes now receive a health insurance subsidy, quarterly blood testing, physiological monitoring, access to physical therapy and medical support as well as a bi-weekly massage subsidy, all while living and training in the high-altitude training Mecca of Flagstaff, Arizona.

“Our goal has been to provide an opportunity for emerging elite athletes to ‘Go for it’,” says coach Greg McMillan. “With the support of adidas and our other generous sponsors, athletes have all they need to focus solely on being the best runners they can be. We look forward to welcoming new athletes as their collegiate eligibility is completed and continuing the resurgence of U.S. distance running.”

McMillanElite team member and Olympic Trials qualifier, Brett Gotcher, says, “Not being a contract-level athlete right out of college, I worried that I wouldn't be able to maintain a ‘running lifestyle’ while still having to pay the bills. McMillanElite’s benefits are more than I could have asked for and will be instrumental in bridging the gap to becoming a full-time professional athlete.”

As mentioned by Danny Lopez, Sports Marketing Manager for adidas US Running, “adidas has long been committed to helping athletes reach their goals. The McMillanElite team is just another prime example. Our investment into this team is an investment in the future of American distance running. Highly successful Team programs have been popping up around the country for a while now. We have wanted to get involved for some time, but have been waiting for the perfect opportunity. The amazing work Greg is doing in Flagstaff has provided us that opportunity. We are confident the future of this team will be very bright indeed.”
